Donald W. Meinig, has been faculty in the Geography Department at Syracuse University since 1959. His focus is historical geography, regional geography, cultural geography, social geography, and landscape interpretation. He is best known for his 4 volume publication, The Shaping of America. Meinig received his Ph. D. in Geography from the University of Washington in 1953. Meinig met J. B. Jackson in August 1963 at the Association of American Geographers (AAG) annual meeting in Denver.
